On March 6th, 2010 Ghana will experience another one of Rocky Dawuni’s electrifying performances at his annual Independence Splash. The concert, presented by his Africa Live! non-profit organization, has often been used as a platform to promote some of his advocacy work: girl child education, clean water, HIV/AIDS and poverty alleviation. This year, as Ghana celebrates its 53rd year of independence, Dawuni will be joined by other international and local artists to kick off the 10th annual concert in Accra.
As the first Sub-Saharan African nation to be released from colonial rule, the symbolism of the country’s independence celebrations are increasingly becoming meaningful, not just politically but socially as well, thanks to such conscious natives as Dawuni. He has participated in past activities with UNICEF and the Carter Center to create awareness about water and sanitation issues in Ghana as well as assisting with the development of practical solutions to the crisis.
The country needs these human forces to push for social change and development, especially at a time when it is drowned in politics and looming oil disputes.

With conscious music, though, there could be no wrong and Dawuni is master at that. He is one of the few artists who have managed to maintain a consistent message throughout their music careers to promote social change. Ghana is grateful.
